Sangre Flamenca

Posted:

Sha Tin Town Hall, Auditorium Friday 3 & Saturday 4

There is no sexier dance than flamenco; no dance more passionate, elaborate, or theatrical. And now, you can experience the fiery powers of flamenco as Spanish dance company Nuevo Ballet Español burns up the stage with their slinky moves, clicking heels, and tight pirouettes.

Sangre Flamenca, a new work by choreographers Carlos Rodríguez and Angel Rojas, showcases the artistry of eleven young dancers. Besides traditional flamenco, the choreographers also employ techniques from other genres of dance, including tango. Though flamenco in its purist form is danced alone, Nuevo Ballet Español mixes things up with duets, trios, and intricately choreographed group dances. With an elaborate wardrobe of custom-made costumes and a live band playing original compositions, Sangre Flamenca will be a fresh look at a dance that dates back to the 18th century.

Rodríguez and Rojas, who have been dancing since the ages of 9 and 13 respectively, founded Nuevo Ballet Espanol in 1996. The company has since toured around the world, performing everywhere from Holland to Venezuela to Japan, winning international awards for their dancing as well as their choreography. This will be the company’s second visit to Hong Kong.

Sangre Flamenca, which translates as “Flamenco blood”, will definitely raise heart rates with its passionate dancing, thrumming rhythms, and unique fusion of traditional and contemporary flamenco techniques. Don’t miss out on this exciting event, which may well be the hottest show of the season.
