Fire

You can’t take it too seriously when whimsical W Hotel opens a fine dining restaurant. It is in fact fine dining, but done with a wink. Fire offers the best of flame-licked meats and other roasted goods. Do give the grilled watermelon a go, and if it’s your first time try out the baby suckling pig. Meal for two: around $2,000.

  • Heading all the way to the mainland (for HK Islanders) we were looking forward to the dinner at the much touted FIRE in the new W Hotel adjoining the Elements Mall. Sadly, the establishment did not live at all up to its name. The service was poor – hard to find a waiter, 10 mins to clear the table after finishing, I never did find out where the beef we were eating came from –, the food tasted like shock frozen heat up (okay, many restaurants & hotels do this, but you need to know how to cover it up), the bar was out of several drinks on the menu, the music did not fit the design of the restaurant – it would be better they play the hip lobby music there as well – and it was annoying to have to fruit flies circling around at a supposedly fine dining eatery. For the least HKD 1000 per head you will spend when you eat here there are far better choices in town (even for a lot less…).
