Drink this... Jax Coco
Most of us are familiar with coconut drinks, whether it’s milky, ice-blended beverages or fresh coconut water served straight out of the shell. Still, the launch of Jax Coco heralds a whole new drinking experience – one that gives the tropical fruit nectar a cool, contemporary edge.
The Hong Kong-based company specialises in microfiltered coconut water extracted from the finest young fruits from the Philippines and Hainan. The clear liquid is then flash-heated – a process that sterilises the product without destroying too many of its natural nutrients and flavour. The result is a safe, smooth and crisply sweet bev that tastes as delicious as its fresh-from-the-fruit counterparts.
Jax Coco is also low in calories (18-24 per 100ml) and contains no added sugars or bad-for-you preservatives. Throw in the fact that it’s a natural source of electrolytes (boasting magnesium, calcium, sodium, phosphorous and particularly rich levels of potassium) and there you have a much healthier hydration alternative to most other fruit juices and energy drinks.
There are other coconut water brands on the market but Jax Coco is definitely the sleekest offering we’ve seen so far. The slim, frosted glass bottle is a design statement and the company has already partnered up with British artist Marc Quinn to create a limited edition version decorated with Quinn’s iconic flower prints. They’ve also done a collaboration bottle with Ibiza’s famed nightclub franchise Pacha. Expect many more limited editions. Aside from glass bottles (currently in 720ml and 250ml sizes), Jax Coco is also available in tetrapack cartons. The brand also plans to launch a sparkling coconut water, as well as flavoured versions in the near future.
Jax Coco is available at high-end restaurants, bars and select grocery stores. Serve chilled and enjoy. Dorothy So
