Hong Kong's best... Chocolates
Awfully Chocolate
While most might associate this place with its sinfully scrumptious cakes and ice-cream, we’re also quite fond of their delectable chocolate truffles. Although the selection is limited, the cocoa-centric company focuses on quality so that everything on the menu is a home run. Citywide, including shop G32-33, G/F, K11, 18 Hanoi Rd, Tsim Sha Tsui, 3122 4466; www.awfullychocolate.com.
Café 103
Formally known as the Chocolate Library, this sugar haven is housed in one of the highest and most luxurious hotels in the world. The famed chocolate afternoon tea set is to die for and includes goodies such as salted caramel, framboise tart, marble cheesecake and, of course, macaroons thrown in for good measure. 103/F, The Ritz-Carlton, International Commerce Ctr, 1 Austin Rd, West Kowloon, 2263 2270.
Goossens Chocolatier
Acknowledged for its intricate and complex designs, Goossens offers an element of beauty in its wares that accompanies the taste. The brand is originally from Antwerp, Belgium, a place with a long history in chocolate crafting. Connoisseurs will not be disappointed. Suite 1, 5/F, Fortune Ctr, 48 Yun Ping Rd, Causeway Bay, 2575 8825; www.goossens.com.hk.
Jean-Paul Hévin
Jean-Paul Hevin has coined his chocolates ‘black pearls’ because of their premium quality and superior taste. It’s not just talk; JPH has scoured the world to locate the finest cocoa beans. The lychee flavoured chocolates are a personal favourite and the signature hot chocolate, as well as some rotating monthly specials, can’t be beat. We also recommend the ‘haute couture’ afternoon tea to satiate those intense chocolate cravings. There are three JPH locations in the city but our favourite is the Parisian-style Boutique et Bar à Chocolat in Central. 13 Lyndhurst Tce, Central, 2851 0633; www.jphevin.com.hk.
La Maison du Chocolat
La Maison is a chocolate power house with boutiques in cities all around the world, including Paris, London, New York, Tokyo and, of course, Hong Kong. Recognised as one of the world’s premier chocolatiers, all creations sold here are handcrafted and regularly tested to guarantee perfection.
