Hong Kong's best... Cupcakes

Posted:

Baking Maniac
This little boy and his mother bake up a storm. They’ll do whatever design you please, although the preset options are also very tasty. For health nuts and the allergy-riddled, they also do eggless, gluten-free and vegan cupcakes. You name it, they cupcake it. bakingmaniac.tk. Cupcakes from $12.

Cake-A-Licious
These ladies may stick with the standard flavours – chocolate, banana, lemon, strawberry – but they go all-out with the presentation. Fine red swirls adorn the vanilla frosting around the chocolate pupil on their “Eyeball” cupcake to make it look blood-shot. 11 Lyndhurst Terrace, LG/Fl, Central, 2815 2218; www.cakealicious.com.hk. Cupcakes from $20.

Coco Cafe
The cupcakes at this stylish patisserie all have their own “hearts” – exotic fillings to complement the carefully paired flavours of cake and icing. The lemon-peel cupcake with basil cream filling and raspberry mousse icing is particularly alluring. The Mira Hotel, 118 Nathan Rd, Tsim Sha Tsui, 2368 1111. Cupcakes from $22.

Complete Deelite
Get your cupcake complete with a mint monster or a buttercream stiletto placed on top. With balloon bouquets and elaborate cookies also available, this is a great place to get all you need for a party. They also offer baking and cake decorating classes. 6/F, California Entertainment Bldg, 34-36 D’Aguilar St, Lan Kwai Fong, Central, 3167 7022; completedeelite.com. Cupcakes from $16.

Cupcakery
Visit this little Mong Kok gem for its pistachio cupcakes swirled with rose flavoured icing. Combining the most delicate shades of green and pink, they taste almost as good as they look. Keeping with the tradition of the food stalls that beset the area, they’re the cheapest cupcakes in town, and worth every cent. Shop 14B, Yan On Bldg, 56 Dundas St, Mong Kok, 6906 6244. Cupcakes from $10.

Saffron Bakery
The three-tiered cup-cake stand, baking trays full of sugary cinnamon goodness, and soft lighting gives the place an old-fashioned charm. Visit the Stanley venue to take away some treats for a teatime picnic at the beach. 34 Hoi Kwong St, Quarry Bay, 2561 6695; Shop 102 Stanley Plaza, Stanley, 2813-0270; www.saffronbakery.com. Cupcakes from $18.

Sift
While these gourmands may call themselves a French patisserie, their cupcake flavours are all-American: peanut butter-chocolate chip, Oreo, red velvet, and S’mores are all on the list. Their white sofas and dark wood chairs with white cushions are minimalist-chic, as is their cake decoration. 22/F, Horizon Plaza, 2 Lee Wing St, Ap Lei Chau, 2870 3887; 43 Queens Rd East, Wan Chai, 2528 0084; 46 Graham St, Soho, 2530 4288; www.siftdesserts.com. Cupcakes from $22.

Sweet Secrets
Since most of their cupcake menu is pretty standard, the “Zippy Zucchini” really pops off the page. Beneath a layer of cream cheese frosting lies a little cake full of fresh shredded zucchini – this one’s certainly unusual. They also do full-size cakes and have monthly promos. G/F, 35 Graham St, Central, 2545 8886; G/F, 28B Canal Rd, E. Causeway Bay, 2575 6228; www.sweetsecrets.com.hk. Cupcakes from $19.

  • I tried the Twangoo service once, it is pretty cool. And the after sale service is efficient. @M The website, ripoff.com, you mention is obviously a fake to disturb people. No legal terms, weird comments, a copycat of the logo.. well well well.. Jane.
