Hong Kong's best... Chocolates

This traditional French cafe sells an array of deliciously decadent chocolates. The selection of truffles is particularly enticing, ranging from chestnut and espresso to orange and peach. Awfully Chocolate
This shop opened in 1998 and sold only one thing: fantastically rich, Bruce Bogtrotter-style chocolate cakes. In the last decade, they’ve added a few more delights to the menu but their philosophy remains the same: to pay homage to the gloriousness of good old fashioned chocolate. Godiva
Founded more than 75 years ago in Brussels, Godiva has always championed good quality ingredients and assiduous attention to detail. To mark Chinese New Year they have created a number of limited-edition tiger-shaped chocolate pieces and elegant Godiva hampers. Level 2, New Town Plaza, Phase 1, Sha Tin, 2697 1690. Jean-Paul Hevin
Jean-Paul Hevin is both an aesthete and a chocolatier. His creations are as much art as they are confection. Chocolate shoes, guitars, and diamond rings decorate the dark wooden counters, prompting dropped jaws among passersby. And they taste as good as they look, which is remarkable. La Maison du Chocolat
La Maison du Chocolat sells handmade French chocolates in a Parisian-style shop. Ganaches and pralines jostle for attention alongside dark squares of full bodied chocolate and smooth creamy truffles. The Peninsula
Made exclusively for the hotel, these chocolates are the perfect combination of tradition and indulgence. Recipes, tips and techniques have been passed on from generation to generation of Peninsula chocolatiers, all of whom strive to maintain the same level of mouthwatering deliciousness. Royce Chocolate
Born in Japan, Royce chocolates have an avid following (one fanatic has even created a blog devoted to the brand). We’re particularly tempted by the classic chocolate bar, as much for its retro wrapping as for its taste. Available at Royce counters, City’super, citywide. Prices start at around $40.

See’s Candies
This classic American candy store is an old fashioned joint that sells a plethora of fantastic looking treats, all of which are guaranteed to cause extreme playground hyperactivity. You have been warned. 1/F, The Landmark, Central, 2523 4977. From around $40.

Teuscher of Switzerland
These handmade, preservative-free chocolates are flown in from Zurich every week. This is classic confectionary at its best; each mouthful is pure, unadulterated pleasure. Resist if you dare. IFC Mall, 8 Finance St, Central, 2462 6432. From around $40.

Vero Chocolates
Ever since it first opened, devotees have been making the pilgrimage to Fenwick Pier to indulge in local choclatier Vero’s satanically rich hot chocolate. 1/F, Fenwick Pier, 1 Lung King St, Wan Chai, 2559 5882. Hot chocolate $35.
