Any Excuse for a Drink: International Day of Awesomeness, March 10

Posted:

It’s not easy being awesome. Winning back-to-back games of Monopoly Junior takes time. Drop-kicking ninjas burns major calories. And signing autographs for small children, adoring grannies, and Japanese tourists makes your hand cramp.

But good news: Thanks to The International Day of Awesomeness, everyone can rightfully honour your hard work. According to the official website (dayofawesomeness.com), this day was created because “people are awesome everyday, frequently don’t realize it, and their feats of awesomeness are rarely recognized.”

This most-deserved salute takes place on March 10 every year because it coincides with Chuck Norris’ birthday. While the creators don’t think the Chuckmeister himself is the be-all and end-all of awesome, the myth of Chuck Norris definitely is. After all, Chuck Norris can blow bubbles with beef jerky.

To commemorate the day, perform feats of awesomeness. These could include staging a flashmob egg-tart-eating contest, speaking only in rhyme, adding “in my pants” to the end of every sentence, or playing a live-action game of “Where’s Waldo?” (in my pants).
Of course, it’s absolutely vital that you find a place to drink to your awesomeness. Better hit up Oriental Sake Bar Yu-Zen, a swanky, top-floor lounge-bar in Causeway Bay. The bartender definitely rocks the Awes-o-meter because, if nothing on the menu matches your awesomeness, he’ll create something that does. After asking about personal taste preferences, he’ll make your glass of liquid awesomeness with the delicacy of an alchemist. You can then toast yourself in your own twinkling gazebo. It’s the perfect reward for being your awesome self – before you get up tomorrow and grace the world with your presence once again.

When: March 10.
Where: Oriental Sake Bar Yu-Zen, 21/F, Circle Plaza, 499 Hennessy Road, 2893 6120.
Drink: Personalized drinks starting at $88 (minimum spend $150).
