Time Out Hong Kong Dining Awards 2009: Best Restaurant

Posted: 26 Oct 2009

Winner

M at the Fringe

We decided to go old-school with this one, because no matter where we went, nothing matched the charm of this restaurant that drips romance, along with a serious commitment to fine food and service. The servers have a way of identifying couples (first date, birthday, anniversary) when they walk in and know just how to cater to them. The menu remains a collection of Old World favourites prepared with simplicity, top ingredients and years of constant refining in the kitchen. And if we needed a further excuse to give them this award, it’s our last chance as they will close for good, after 20 years in business, at the end of this year. Wonder who’ll be the last name scrawled in their famous reservation book (pictured above). Thanks for the memories, M. 2 Lower Albert Rd, Central, 2877 4000.

Almost famous

The Bostonian for serving only sustainable fish. The Langham, Hong Kong, 8 Peking Rd, Tsim Sha Tsui, 2375 1133.

Lei Garden for consistency in service, fine Canto dining, and making the best soup tonics in Hong Kong. Citywide.

Reader’s choice

Ok, hands down, Isola is the bestest restaurant in Hong Kong – you said it.
