Time Out Hong Kong Dining Awards 2009: Date
Winner
The Pawn
Getting the tempo right for a good date is what The Pawn does well. Here your date is interactive: first meet up at their bar for starter drinks… and maybe a game of table football. Then move upstairs for an elegant British comfort meal where the roasts are sharable and the wines affordable. Talking points: Tsang Kin-wah’s wallpaper or the waiter’s plaid uniforms. Next, move up to the roof garden onto the semi-private, cushioned banquette for further drinks, if the date’s going well. And if the date’s going really well, take the express elevator down for a taxi. Meal for two: around $1,000. 62 Johnston Rd, Wan Chai, 2866 3444.
Almost famous
Sharing a plate of fettuccelle ai Mirtilli at Gaia Ristorante draws to mind a famous scene from Lady and the Tramp. Grand Millennium Plaza, 181 Queen’s Rd Central, Sheung Wan, 2167 8200.
The Stable. How sexy is it to sit inside an old horse stable with a lovely view of a quiet garden. 2 Canton Rd, Tsim Sha Tsui, 3988 0000.
Reader’s choice
The Press Room is great if you’ve no idea what her/his dietary restrictions are. 108 Hollywood Rd, Sheung Wan, 2525 3444.
