Time Out Hong Kong Dining Awards 2009: Cafe/Coffee Shop
Winner
Fuel Espresso
These New Zealanders take their coffee very, very seriously. Who else in Hong Kong can say their beans are grown in their family’s plantation then shipped directly from the farm to their mugs within four days of roasting? Logistics aside, it takes around 24 days to train one of their baristas before they can even make a cup for a customer. Need we say more? We like obsessives. Shop 3023, IFC Mall, Central, 2295 3815; www.fuelespresso.com.
Almost famous
Gusto invites you to linger for conservations, pull out your laptop, and read a magazine long after your cup of Joe is gone. G/F, 41 Yik Yam St, Happy Valley, 2839 2689.
Mandarin Cake Shop may be the home of the most expensive latte ($65!) but it is a mighty fine one, and we can’t live without the coffee bar filled with today’s papers. 5 Connaught Rd, Central, 2825 4008.
Reader’s choice
