The vibe
The seaside boardwalk at Stanley usually gets busy on weekends, with city folks looking for a bit of fresh air and tour groups checking out one of the most popular sites on the Southside. Opened this year, the British-styled pub Pickled Pelican makes a perfect spot for people watching – not to mention a tipple or two.

The drink
Make that the drinks. Beside the various imported ales sold by the bottle (including Old Speckled Hen and Ruddles County, $70 each), they also serve a large selection of Scotch whiskies, including Macallan, Bowmore, and Auchentoshan single malts (prices range from $80 to $125).

The entertainment
There’s a pool table on the second floor, as well as a few screens to catch the footie action. However the majority of patrons go for the outdoor seating, where you can watch the world go by, drink in hand.

Expect over-the-hill frat boys, as well as a few serial first-daters. Mix in a family or two and you get an idea of the clientele.
