Mos Burger, Japanese Ingenuity

Posted: 21 Oct 2008

Mos must have one of the most imaginative burger menus in town, with everything from onion gravy to pork yakiniku. We ordered the classic Mos Burger ($20) with thick-cut tomato, sweet mayo and Bolognaise-style sauce.

What our tasters said: “The bun is sweet like a Chinese pastry... a bit like American burger chain Wendy’s... The tomato is too dry... Interesting bolognaise-style sauce with chopped onions... kind of like lasagne in a bun... The meat’s a bit too soft, not like a classic hamburger should be... A bit on the small side, but good value for $20.”

Meat: 4/10
Bun: 7/10
Toppings: 6/10
Value: 8/10
Overall:  5/10 One of the more unusual burgers we tried, Mos Burger is a good bet if you’re merely peckish rather than ravenous – and for us it just edges out its Japanese rival Freshness.
