Bahn Mi at Nha Trang

After returning from New York recently I was shocked by the Bahn Mi craze sweeping the city. It was like the shops were trying to muscle out the corner pizza slice joints. I’ve always been a fan of this sandwich with Vietnamese cold cuts, grilled meat, and a combination of pickled carrot, daikon, and cucumber. Topped with cilantro and served on a warm baguette with mayo and chilli, the flavors meld to together to make for a refreshingly tasty bite.

I grabbed one recently at the old Vietnamese stalwart Nha Trang’s Wan Chai location. It was traditional in its presentation and served on decent sized crusty French bread. Not quite like getting one fresh off the streets in Hanoi, but a nice change of pace from Subway, and, at $38, nearly as cheap.

Nha Trang, 2/F, Wu Chung House, 213 Queens Rd East, Wan Chai.
