What was the best compliment you've ever had from a fan?
That I make their womb rock! [Laughs]. Actually, I’ve had a few female DJs say I was their inspiration to start DJing – to me that is a huge compliment. One of the reasons I started to DJ was to show that women can do it too, so it’s cool to help a few women realise their dreams.
Describe one of the most nerve-racking moments you've had before a performance.
I guess the time I played at Tribal Gathering to 30,000 people, when I´d only been playing for one year. I had to climb up this ladder really high up – and I am scared of heights. I was then perched on a swinging platform and had no way down as they removed the ladder. I was shitting myself – not literally – though halfway through I was dying to go to the toilet. It was not cute.
What are some singles or remixes that you are working on?
I’m going into the studio with up-and-coming producer Nicole Moudaber, and we’re going to make a deep style pounding techno track. I’m looking forward to working with her as I’ve never been in the studio with a woman before – I think the vibe will be good.
You've played at some of the world’s most legendary clubs - Cream and Ministry of Sound - what was the best you’ve played?
In the old days when Space was open air the club was amazing. I’ve played some rocking sets in that club over the years, and also at Cavo Paradiso in Mykonos. It’s a gorgeous venue, and is a huge outdoor club overlooking a cliff edge. They have a pool and everyone dances around it and jumps in when the sun rises. It´s magical to DJ just as the sun is coming up.
What track do you always throw on to get the crowd going?
At the moment there is a track called Trumpeta – it has this nagging trumpet loop going through it that builds and builds into a wall of sound, with the beat dropping in and out – the crowd always go mad for it. Tina Lee
