Janice Vidal
It seemed written in the stars a long time ago that Janice Vidal would one day become a Cantopop diva. Originally a backing singer for
Leon Lai, Vidal’s path to stardom was made easy after she started performing covers of Lai’s famous melodies, releasing both her debut and her follow up album in 2005, winning a legion of fans and sweeping a raft of new singer awards.
Seven full albums later, and with mega hits like My Love, My Fate and Run Away From Home under her belt, Vidal has become one of the best-selling female singers in Hong Kong, counting former CE Donald Tsang as one of her fans (score…). Her soft and pure voice makes her melodic Canto soothing to the ears and, more importantly, believable and memorable.
She literally stands out from the swamp of generic Cantopop numbers in this city. Her cultural background of Chinese, Filipino and Korean has blessed her with a natural groove. Her unique enunciation has become one of her endearing trademarks. And then there’s that adorable little nose piercing.
In her upcoming concert, Vidal celebrates her passion for singing with a company of leading musicians. With a long list of classic hits, don’t expect to run off home too quickly.
