Time Out Podcast: Episode 54

Posted:

We’re kicking off 2012 with plenty of local beats, blips and electronic experimentalism as well as some Indo Punk. Email mark.tjhung@timeout.com.hk if you want to hear your tracks on the podcast. Presented by Sean Hocking of Metal Postcard Records.

Whether it’s as head of local label Lona Records, as part of disco-punkers A Roller Control, or as bassist for industrial noisesters 31G, Alok Leung is always making a lot of noise. In this track from 628Interface – a new avant-garde collaboration with Vietnam-based jrg_one – he turns it up a notch, with an eerie soundscape of fuzz and drone. The original clocks in just under 16 minutes, but Leung has kindly fashioned this pod-friendly mix especially for Time Out!

All For a Vision New Age Anthem

Formed just over six months ago, this foursome are the latest youngsters to have popped up on our radar. Their tunes tend toward the more intense spectrum of electro-rock, but this number is built very much on a big beat, drum’n’bass foundation. You can download the rest of their debut EP from their Facebook page.

Indonesians really know how to get the original punk stripped bare feel. This track is from this Bogor-based band’s album Mistery Torpedo. Most of the songs on this release clock in under a minute, and should catch the attention of those who loved Texas’ Millions Of Dead Cops or DC’s Bad Brains.

DJ Harvey Presents Locussolus Gunship

DJ Harvey has been playing the right tunes to the right people since back in the day, and on his first ever LP he teams up with that other dance genius Andrew Weatherall, as well as other luminaries such as Lindstrom and Prins Thomas to create an album that rocks with equal shades of light and dark. A future classic without a doubt.
