Papancha is a three-piece Hong Kong-based band featuring two Brits and a Singaporean. They play upbeat grungy rock with punchy tunes that combine folk, big rock choruses and artful lyrics, inspired by a love of Neil Young, grunge, heavy guitars and Jack Kerouac.
Luke Chow Stand Up (Sushi Robot Remix)
soundcloud.com/sushi-robot
Local electronic duo Sushi Robot has just finished a remix album, taking tracks from Hong Kong indie outfits and giving them an electronic twist. We’ll feature more in the future, but for starters, here’s singer-songwriter Luke Chow with a new d’n’b beat.
Milkteeth Shea Heights

They take little bites from traditional roots, jazz and country music, then mix them with modern hipster sensibilities, fashioning a brand of freak-folk that is all their own.
Bossa Negra Summer Samba
www.bossanegra.com
Here’s some Brazilian beats made Chinese by Hong Kong producer Howard Lee and Brazilian musician Sérgio Luiz Brandão, taken from the first ever (apparently) bossa nova album sung in Mandarin. It features vocals by Singaporean songstress Joanna Dong and has started to sell like hotcakes north of the border.
