Arizonian brothers Jared and Michael Bell do post-rock for the modern era, with vintage electronics, beats and a world of effects. This track, from their 2009 EP Field Studies, released on Magic Bullet Records, provides a taste of what you’ll hear when they play Hidden Agenda on Thursday July 21.
Edmund Leung Sailor Sam
This track is from Leung’s debut album from a few years back, Yes... Music for Felines – an LP about a man and a mystical cat. The singer-songwriter’s tunes are well-produced and he experiments with different styles throughout the CD, and succeeds at not over-stylising his songs, and grows on you over time. Hopefully another will come in the future, maybe with a lot more experimentation.

Is Celebration, Florida the best album of the year? It’s like the Happy Mondays fell in with Bob Dylan and The Band and made sure they listened to every Clash album until the vinyl ran smooth. Ponzi is an amazing song about the financial schemes, misdeeds and plain stupidity of the past few years.
Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes 40 Day Dream

Although they released their album, Up From Below, a couple of years back, it’s been a slowburner that’s taking everybody by surprise. This is joyful West Coast music at its absolute best, with nods to The Waterboys, The Grateful Dead and The Polyphonic Spree.
