Guai Li Be Cool

Fronted by the flamboyant and diminutive femme fatale Wen Jun, this five-piece art rock outfit are one of Beijing’s finest – at least according to Carsick Cars wunderkind Zhang Shouwang. Guai Li are launching their debut album Flight of Delusion this month, and play Hidden Agenda on Saturday 11. This track, with touches on some walls of Ride-esque guitars and direct, chanting anthems, should be a decent introduction to this promising outfit. See Feature.

After refining their dark, raw, energetic sound for several years, these local gothic industrial rockers launch their debut album with a gig at Hidden Agenda on September 18. This track was recently included in a Quickstar Production compilation, Industrial Underground Volume 2, and will appear on the album. See Preview.

Kristina Lao Sebastian’s Bowl

Before leaving Hong Kong to attend the London School of Musical Theatre, singer-songwriter Lao launched her debut EP Into the Woods with a Cardboard Box, which includes this stripped back, acoustic-guitar-led ballad.

Clockwork Puppets Seven Days Ago

This Mainland act is largely a mystery to us – all we know is what we can hear. In this track, it almost sounds like a Syd Barrett song fell accidently into an emo movie soundtrack. It’s different, that’s for sure.

Mount Kimbie Would Know

These guys are Metal Postcard’s act of the year. This sub bass electronic duo from Brighton, UK, sounds as otherworldly to us as did The Orb back in 1990. It’s really not worth trying to describe. All we suggest is you download the debut album Crook & Lovers now or rush to HMV and demand a copy now.
