Album Review: Espers

III (Wichita)

Apparently Philly’s neo-psych folkies wanted to create a more ‘oxygenated sonic presence’ with their third album, and true to this mission statement, this is less dense than previous offerings and just as bewitching. Their otherworldly brew is most successful during the mellow grooves of Sightings and Caroline, where Meg Baird and GregWeeks harmonise sweetly over guitar plucks and an eerie swirl of bowing guitars. The trio hover between eras in a timeless dreamscape: quite lovely.
