Rain Fashion Concert
Brace yourself, Hong Kong – it looks like we’re in for some Rain. You might remember him for his occasional yodelling in his music videos, or for his Michael Jackson meets Bruce Lee dance moves. Or maybe you even re-watched that time he was challenged to a dance-off by Stephen Colbert and won by making the Dance Dance Revolution machine explode (search ‘Stephen Colbert Rain’ on YouTube). Either way, he is most certainly one for lasting impressions.
Armed with a team of at least 100 Hong Kong and Korean artists, pop star Rain, or ‘Bi’ as he’s known in Korean, hosts an extravagant fashion and music show to launch his new brand ‘Six to Five’ on Saturday 27. The event will be held in the CotaiArena in Macau on Saturday 27, and promises to be a stunning and unique visual kaleidoscope. The brand Six to Five is the artist’s pun on his birthday, June 25, or ‘6-25’. The show will feature Rain’s melodious crooning, while a group of models parade around in Six to Five’s fall/winter collection in a display of the artist’s ‘masterful’ choreography.
Otherwise known as the Asian Justin Timberlake (though don’t expect to see him perform a Korean-language version of Dick in a Box any time soon), Rain was born in South Korea in 1982, and was the typical high school introvert with a passion (and undeniable talent) for singing and dancing. Despite initially being turned away by talent scouts for not possessing double eyelids (a typically ‘unattractive’ Asian feature that should be rectified at all costs), he rose to fame after debuting his first album, Bad Guy, and proving that it isn’t all about looks, after all. A pioneer of ‘Hallyu’, the K-pop Wave that has been sweeping through Asia, Rain’s eminence has spread from East to West, also bringing a new and sunnier definition to his namesake.
So find yourself some Rain-y day fans and get swiftly to a ticket booth – each person is limited to eight tickets only. And make sure you bring your umbrellas and wellies; this promises to be one hell of a shower.
Rain plays CotaiArena on Saturday 27, $1,800-$380, www.cotaiticketing.com.
