Wakin Chau at Cotai Arena

Posted:

The artist formerly known as Emil is coming to Macau. But no, he's not represented by a mere symbol, and no, he's not constantly shrouded in controversy (or purple rain, for that matter). Indeed, compared to his royally monikered counterpart, Chau is the perfect star to perform in an enchanting, Christmas Eve concert. This Hong Kong-born singer has cultivated a clean-cut and friendly image throughout his career, particularly through his contribution to international causes, and regular performances in charity concerts.

On Wednesday 24, Chau brings his guitar to the Venetian Macao's Cotai Arena for one night only, to perform from his enormous catalogue of hits, including his early album Direction of the Heart, to his most recent 2006 release Rain Man, and everything in between, including the popular, platinum albums You Make Me Happy and Sad, The Flowery Heart, Music Brings Us Together and Emil & Friends.

Since first striking it big in the Taiwan music scene more than 20 years ago, Chau has released more than 40 albums in Putonghua, Cantonese and English, a testament to how prolific the multilingual veteran has been in his career. Of course, as with many local artistes, his talents aren't limited to the musical, with Chau somehow managing to find time between recording his plethora of albums to appear regularly on the silver screen. And on top of all that, he's friends with Jackie Chan.

Chau's Christmas Eve concert promises to be a wonderful occasion with wholesome music and perhaps some Christmas cheer. But don't expect controversy, diamonds or pearls. Don't even expect Emil Chau. Just expect Wakin, his sing along classics, and a fantastic concert.
