The clock ticks past 90 minutes and the referee glances at his watch again. Your team is 1-0 down in the European Champions League final and, inexplicably, you find yourself not in the stands or at the pub, but in the middle of Old Trafford. Ronaldo plays a square ball to you. Ignoring Rooney’s run, you drive into space and just hit it. Everything else is a rapturous blur. Every football fan has had a dream like this. And now, these dreams can become reality. Or, at least, virtual reality.
The world’s first interactive football experience is in Macau. Open at The Manchester United Experience at The Venetian Macao, The Interactive Zone provides football fans with the opportunity to learn more about one of the biggest football clubs in the world and, most excitingly, to step into the shoes of their heroes. With its five training pods, the Zone allows you to test your skills in awareness, dribbling, passing on the turn, shooting and goalkeeping, with your every quality touch, deft manoeuvre and goalkeeping blunder videoed for you to relive on the internet.
Once the training has been completed, you’ll be ready to step up to the big time. The Interactive Zone recreates the entire Manchester United match day experience, taking you from the locker room, where you can inspect Wayne Rooney’s kit bag and get a pep talk from Sir Alex himself, to what is surely the highlight – walking out onto the hallowed turf of the Theatre of Dreams in 360 degree, high-definition glory.
Sure, many of you may be disappointed at only being able to play for Manchester United, but look at it this way - perhaps the interactive experience will give you a chance to kick Ronaldo in the ankles? That is, if he's not already been deleted from the computer program.
