Tina Lee explores new horizons (and positions) at the first ever Asia Adult Expo
At the last exposition artist Tim Patch attended, he painted for thirteen hours straight. Over the course of five expos, he’s averaged 20 portraits a day, spending 20 minutes on each masterpiece. That’s a heavy workload by any stretch of the imagination, but it’s all the more impressive when you consider Patch’s peculiar artistic tool: his penis.
“It’s just something I started to do when I got divorced – like therapy, I suppose,” the man now known as ‘Pricasso’ says with a laugh. “I’ve always been able to paint and draw so I just sort of tried it, in private. It did take two years to get the skill to capture someone’s likeness,” Pricasso says, referring to a task he felt had to be mastered in order for the public to take him seriously as an artist.
All that practice obviously paid off, as audiences love Pricasso’s work so much that he’s been commissioned to do what he calls his Penile Portraits at Sexpos around the world, including the very first Asia Adult Expo, to be held this month in Macau.
Alice Tsang, one of the AAE coordinators, says, “This was a very challenging exhibition to organise, and it’s not because of the location in Macau – it’s because of the nature of the topic.” While putting together the expo, Tsang found that “Asian countries saw this sex topic as a bit of a taboo” and ran into numerous difficulties. “When we organised the expo with the Venetian, the local government agreed that this topic is sensitive so it was quite a long process to get all the licensing and approval.”
But Tsang feels it’s time for Asians to openly embrace sex culture, and take this opportunity to learn about this highly profitable industry – plus, it won’t be too X-rated. Tsang says the AAE will be mild compared to, say, the Berlin Sexpo. “We will be a little more reserved since this is the first time we’ve organised this in Asia. So we have to test it a little bit.” Still, as well as Pricasso, there’ll be only mild nudity from other performers, such as male dancers Badboys from Australia and a Japanese bondage master.
Badboys dancer Menno Van Kampen plans on doing his Robocop routine. “It’s funny because it’s not a sexy routine, but we always have backup dancers throughout it,” he says, adding that they also plan to do a martial arts sequence. “There’s no sleaze; guys can even watch the show and be entertained.” Special guests also include Japanese adult video star Kato Taka and the ‘Aussie Bombshells’, Kat Cross, Amanda Hincliff, and Lucy Newton.
However, if that doesn’t make people come (no pun intended, seriously), the AAE organisers hope the latest collections of vibrators and sex toys on offer will. “An innovation for me is the Sexercise Ball, which transforms an exercise ball into a vibrator,” Tsang says. Designed with an attachable screw-on Buzz Bunny vibrator, the Sexercise Ball provides core-building exercise that benefits both partners during sex. Other products to keep an eye out for include a popular European S&M swing, and a state-of-the-art lipstick vibrator (compact and easily concealed inside a purse).
While Asia’s first ever Sexpo might be lacking some of the raunch of its Western counterparts, never fear – there should still be more than enough on offer to tickle your fancy.
