World AIDS Day

Posted:

Fresh off the heels of a successful turnout at the Pride Parade, the 2009 World Aids day will kick off on December 1. This year’s campaign draws on the theme: ‘Universal Access and Human Rights’, which emphasises care and support for People Living with HIV (PLHIV) through education, awareness and distribution of the iconic red ribbons.

With such monumental progress in treatment it is easy to forget that the Department of Health still estimates that within ten years, half of those infected with HIV will progress to Aids.

In a warm-up event, writer Vivian Chow will help launch the book Positive Lives, a collection of stories on PLHIV. People can show support by purchasing a ‘NIS Bear’ and all net proceeds will be donated to the Hong Kong AIDS Foundation.
