Hong Kong Sevens 2010: Tournaments

What better way to get the rugby juices flowing than to catch some live action leading up to the Rugby Sevens?

GFI Tens
Twenty-five years ago, on the centenary of the Hong Kong Football Club, the rugby division started the Hong Kong Tens to kick off Sevens weekend. Since then the tournament has become the premiere event of its kind in Asia, with some of rugby’s biggest names taking part. To celebrate the 25th anniversary this year, the Tens is throwing open the gates to let everyone in free on day one.
Mar 24 & 25, Hong Kong Football Club, Happy Valley, all day. $100 on Thu 25. www.hongkongtens.com.

InProjects Kowloon RugbyFest
Sixteen teams contest this tournament, which organiser Kevin McBarron describes as a “lighter alternative to the Tens”. Despite its status as a social event, RugbyFest has attracted a good number of rugby stars from yesteryear. This year should be no different.
Mar 24, King’s Park Sports Ground, Ho Man Tin, Kowloon, all day. Free entry.

Standard Chartered International Youth Tournament
This annual tournament gathers the brightest and the best of our youth on one field.
Mar 25, King’s Park Sports Ground, all day. Free entry.

Cable & Wireless International Women’s Sevens
China, reigning IRB Rugby World Cup Sevens champions, headline a strong line-up for this year’s tournament. Other participants include five-time cup champions Aotearoa Maori of New Zealand and the Aussie Amazons.
Mar 26, Hong Kong Football Club, all day.
