Best of 2009: Best Gallery
Osage Gallery
Osage Gallery is amazingly consistent. Its dependability for well-curated, thoughtful shows that reflect a culturally specific but global aesthetic has led us to name them Best Gallery for the second year running. The sprawling expanse of Osage Kwun Tong allows for the staff of industrious curators to imagine on a grand scale, bringing us breathtaking examples of both creative curation in Yuko Hasegawa’s A Blow to the Everyday and full-on installation with Nipan Oranniwesna’s Being at Home. The smaller Osage Soho, meanwhile, brings the ethos of the gallery into the heart of the city.
Osage Kwun Tong, 5/F, Kian Dai Industrial Building, 73-75 Hung To Rd, Kwun Tong; and Osage Soho, 45 Caine Rd, LG, Shop 1, Corner Old Bailey St, Central.
Honourable Mention: Art Statements
Unwilling to shy away from controversy, Art Statements returned outlaw French artist ZEVS to the city streets in June, less than a year after he was arrested for defacing an Armani storefront in Central with a dripping Chanel logo. That display of moxie from the Statements crew shows a level of commitment to relevant modern and contemporary art that deserves recognition.
5 Mee Lun St, Central, 2122 9657.
Readers' Choice: Schoeni Art Gallery
You gave the popular Schoeni gallery a well-deserved nod for its edgy Chinese contemporary art.
