Best of 2009: Best New Club Night
Hype Nasty
Kid Fresh and Enso of Pimpin’ Ain’t Easy repeated their success with this banging new monthly electro night at Volar. It kicked off in April with a visit from London bassline boy Dexplicit, and a roster of guest stars such as A-Trak, Craze and Klever, and Missill kept the standard high – and the Friday mornings after, painful. Last Thursday of the month.
Honourable mention: Songs For Children
Scottish pair Mike Middleton and Jane Flynn have been a breath of fresh Highland air for our indie music scene this year. The buoyant tunes they spin are consistently good, but it’s the sense of community they’ve managed to create at their monthly shindigs that set them apart. That, and the maracas. Last Friday of the month at Philia.
Readers' Choice: Supersonic
The organisers of this Brit-rock night at Bassment went all out to rally their troops and get vote to the top of our list. Mission accomplished.
