Clockenflap cheat sheet: Local Heroes

Posted:

Clockenflap promises to be a showcase of our homegrown finest, with more than a dozen bands and DJs featuring over the fest. Here’s a few of the acts we’re looking forward to:

Chochukmo
With an acoustic Diesel:U:Music set, a Rockraiser gig, and weeks in the studio behind them, our We’ll Make Your Album winners return to the grass, showcasing the flamenco-, dub-, and electro-inflected, tempo-shifting art rock that won them our competition. MySpace profile

Poubelle International
After a tumultuous couple of months, Ben McCarthy, Johan Persson, and new bassist Dean Cameron will bring the big riffs and raw, rocking Poubelle energy to the ‘flap with tunes like The Battle of Trafalgar Square and The Disaster. Check them out on the latest Time Out Podcast. MySpace profile

Volt in Music
We’re big fans of Honhim and K’s warping, sampling, and future-channeling work. Their electronic audio-visual crossover has seen them play last year’s New Vision Art Festival, and their multimedia track DenkiDooh screened at the 404 Festival in Rosario, Argentina.

Noughts and Exes
Noughts and Exes have had a recent shift in sound, nurturing a mysterious and cerebral rock sound as they work on their second album. They won plenty of friends supporting the Handsome Furs in September, and are sure to gain more come Cyberport. MySpace profile

Snoblind Sound System

Pioneers of our local electronic scene, the prolific duo of Vincent Wong and Regina Chang have been pushing our sonic boundaries for years, drawing on varied influences from ambient soundscapes to hip-hop. Their recent new EP Phantom Cartography showed they’re not afraid to go a little experimental either. Website
