Top 5: Records Connor Hanwick & Peggy Wang

Posted:
The super cute hipster couple-come-DJ duo made up of Connor from The Drums and Peggy from The Pains of Being Pure at Heart spin fun indie pop this fortnight. Here are their joint top records…

1. Cola Boy 7 Ways to Love
This is a track from 1991 written by Bob Stanley and Pete Wiggs of Saint Etienne. They deemed it ‘too cheesy’ for Saint Etienne and released it under the moniker Cola Boy. We don’t think it’s too cheesy. We think it’s great.

2. Tough Alliance Something Special
It’s actually impossible to choose a Tough Alliance song. They are pretty much all awesome. This one just instantly makes you feel good all over. Also, we’re suckers for housey piano.

3. Max Essa Panorama Suite
This song is 20 minutes of pure bliss. It’s a deceivingly simple instrumental that we find totally hypnotising, built from just two chords.

4. Gene Page All Our Dreams Are Coming True
This is really good disco. It has a really cool groove, nice melodies and some euphoric key changes.

5. Joe Smooth Promised Land
If house music had ‘standards’ the way that jazz and folk music do, this would be one. It’s amazing from start to finish.

Connor and Peggy spin a DJ set at XXX on Friday August 3. Tickets in advance are $160 from White Noise or The Globe or $200 at the door. Call 9709 2085 or click here for more info.
