Top 5 Records: Dimitri From Paris
1. Lalo Schifrin Mission Impossible
This is the song that made me get into music as a young teen. It had the tension, the percussion and the clever arranging that I’ve been looking for in music.
2. Change The Glow Of Love
This is certainly my all-time favourite disco song. It’s lush, symphonic, romantic and the driving acoustic beat can still make kids dance decades after it was recorded.
3. Salsoul Orchestra Ooh I Love It (Love Break)
Another one of my benchmark disco tracks. The dubbing and remixing techniques pioneered here are still in use today. It’s been sampled many times, most notably in Madonna’s Vogue.
4. Future World Orchestra Desire
I discovered them recently, kicking out New Order and The Human League on my fave synth pop acts list. I have to admit their attire played a big role.
5. Incredible Bongo Band Apache
As an apprentice DJ, I heard parts of this record on many mixtapes and I almost cried the day I found my own copy. It’s been sampled countless times but, it’s so powerful, I never get tired of it and still play it.
Dimitri spins at Kee Club on Friday June 22.
