Taio Cruz
If you’ve visited any mainstream club in the past three years, you will have undoubtedly been subjected to the music of Taio Cruz. Known for causing hangovers, broken hearts and saying ‘A YO!’, the British singer/songwriter’s irresistibly catchy tunes have been the backdrop to many-a champagne bottle popping good time in Lan Kwai Fong. And now he’s in our neck of the woods to celebrate the first anniversary of Macau’s biggest club – Cubic, in the City of Dreams.
Cruz came from humble beginnings as a songwriter (not a singer), first gaining acclaim with the song Your Game penned with Will Young in 2004. After recording demos for other artists (Rihanna included) and gaining considerable success in the UK for his debut album Departure, he exploded into the mainstream with his second effort, Rokstarr, featuring the international hit Break Your Heart. This slick but catchy tune has made it a mainstay in every club ever since. Up next for Cruz is his third album TY.O (note to newbies – it’s how Taio’s name is pronounced).
Like many savvy musicians, Cruz has since ventured into the fashion world with the clothing and accessories brand RXTR, aptly named after his breakthrough album. It’s hardly what we call ‘classy’ but expect blingin’ watches and extra-large sunnies in the line. We think the latter will come in handy to shield your eyes from the incessant camera flashes during Taio’s upcoming gig.
