Clockendecks
You might be coming for the bands but the great local DJs on the bill are well worth checking out! Not sure who plays where and what? Andrea Yu breaks down the sets to catch...
If you’re into INDIE & ROCK
The Supersonic crew has long been known for their honest-to-goodness Brit indie rock sensibilities. They’ll stay on stage for the I Love 80s DJ set playing tracks from their favourite decade. Uptown Rockers, the Clockenflap closers of 2009, will get revellers on their feet with the perfect indie dance tunes. Members of the Stattus Soundsystem will also be spinning everything from post-punk to classic rock and indie with five slots on the Clockenbill.
If you’re into HOUSE & TECHNO
Names like electronic collective Science of Sounds and the techno crew PUSH may already be familiar, thanks to their respective club nights at Insenses and Volar. Ocean Lam holds down the tech-house fort at Yumla (which, by the way, is closing its doors on Jan 1), while Miko Van Chong will spin deep house and tech house for his festival set.
If you’re into DUB & ELECTRO
DJ Enso , who played Clockenflap in 2009, will be back with plenty of UK sounds like bassline, funky and dancehall while the two lads that make up Bassmen 3 promise plenty of dub with their own psychedelic twist. Clockenfounder Robot will be bringing you various electronic sounds like dubstep and techno.
If you’re into FUNK & HIP-HOP
DNKRCK tells us he’s got plenty of TLC lined up for his 90s hip-hop and R&B set, while K-Melo, the man behind TheGetUp!, will be spinning Afrobeat and funk tunes. The Godfather of DJing and founder of Ultralounge, DJ Kulu, has plenty of old-school funk, soul and jazz ready for flappers of all ages.
Clockenflap Music and Arts Festival, West Kowloon Cultural District. December 10-11, www.clockenflap.com
