Interview: Gildas from Kitsuné
Ahead of the Kitsuné Club Night at Volar on Saturday July 30, Andrea Yu chats to the label's co-founder and A&R man, Gildas Loaëc, to find out what's next in store for the up-and-coming brand.
You’ve been to Hong Kong before. What do you think of our city, and what keeps you coming back?
Hong Kong is so alive, so intense. I'm coming back for this great atmosphere and, of course, to hang out with my good friends at Volar and make the best party!
What’s Masaya up to and why isn’t he on tour with you?
Masaya is the designer of the Maison Kitsuné clothes line. He has stopped DJing. But we are coming together back in September for a temporary store we are doing in Hong Kong with our friends from CLOT.
Tell me about Moonlight Matters and why you’ve brought them on tour with you.
Moonlight Matters is a fantastic Belgian producer... he’s so melodic and into everything he is producing. It’s great he is coming to Asia for the first time!
What was your goal in creating the Kitsuné Club Mix?
We were doing lots of club nights before, at the start of Kitsuné. We took a break while we were developing Two Door Cinema Club on the live scene. Now we are back! The club is our favourite element. We do release lots of club singles.
In your opinion, what is the formula for a perfect club night?
A perfect club night is the best DJ, the best sound system, the best club, the best crowd, the best drinks!
What new bands or DJs have you been really impressed by recently?
So many... The Twelves are fantastic DJs. The HeartsRevolution album has finally been delivered. Also, a new Kitsuné band called the Citizens! Or Housse de Racket.
What are some tracks we'll definitely hear during your set at Volar?
Housse De Racket - Roman (Oliver Remix).
Cassian remixes of Two Door Cinema Club.
IS Tropical - The Greeks (Moonlight Matters remix).
Gildas spins a live set alongside Moonlight Matters at Volar on July 30. Tickets: $350.
