Even if you don’t know his name, you’ve probably heard the tunes he spins. He’s DJed everywhere, from Yumla, FINDS, Solas to Gecko Lounge and Drop. Aside from his Thursday night residency at Homebase, spinning deep and progressive sounds, we find out how he fuels his weekend.
Thursday
“My weekend starts with a good dinner – I like chilling out at SML (11/F, Times Square, 1 Matheson St, Causeway Bay), where there’s lots of variety. I start my residency at Homebase (17-19 Hollywood Rd, Central) at midnight, and after I finish at 3am, if the night’s good, I usually stay until 4am or 5am for the other DJs that come on after me. Homebase is definitely a home for me. I hang out there a lot.
Friday
To start, I go over to Hush (2 Glenealy, Central) for a few drinks during happy hour. Hush has a nice, chilled-out vibe. From there we’ll go somewhere nearby to grab some food. Rat Alley is always a fun place to go (Wing Wah Lane, Central). Or Zhong Guo Song (6 Wo On Lane, Central), a no-MSG Chinese restaurant. Then we’ll go back to Hush for some more drinks. We usually end up leaving around 1am or 2am, having Incredible Hulks which is a Jaeger bomb, but the Jaeger’s replaced with Absinthe. That gets a Friday night going.
From there, it’ll end up somewhere like Yumla (Pottinger St, Central). They’ve got good people and good music. If we’re getting hungry again, we’ll hit up a late-night dim sum joint. I don’t remember what street it’s on because I’m usually a bit blurred when I go there. [Later, Arun tells us it’s called Sun Hing (10 Hou Wo St, Sai Wan)].
Saturday
If it’s sunny, I try to get up early and head to a beach, like Shek O. If we’re really lazy, we’ll spend the rest of the day there. Then, when we’ve had enough beers, we’ll come back into town and hang out at Baby Buddha (18 Wo On Lane, Central) or Fly (G/F, 24-30 Ice House St, Central). At Fly, you’ll definitely meet people who are out to have fun, but they probably care more about how they look than about how much fun they’re having. Then again, that’s a stereotype; I’m not going to fix that to every patron that walks into the place.”
