Heavy 4th Anniversary Party
Backstage Live, Saturday 27
Heavy, every Hong Kong bass head’s favourite party, is turning four-years-old this fortnight and the passionate people behind the event’s many memorable nights are promising more of the same for years to come. “We started Heavy as Hong Kong’s first regular dubstep night and we’ve been getting a really good, consistently spontaneous response from people,” says party organizer Lai Fai. “In four years we’ve learned that promoting music in Hong Kong can be a little bit like a rollercoaster ride sometimes, but we are still here, ready and waiting for the next rise.”
As a bonus for loyal regulars, Heavy will be giving all attendees of the anniversary night free copies of their latest mixtape, which is a self-produced sampler compilation of original cuts from the usual Hong Kong and Macau DJs that regularly fill out Heavy’s lineups.
Headlining the anniversary party is special guest Boj Lucki, flying in from his native Sweden for the weekend. Boj Lucki is known to push a warm, up-tempo slice of dubwise – a sound that even non-DnB disciples will probably find appealing after a few Red Stripes. Hosting are MC Capas, MC Battery, and MC Rebearth, and Boj Lucki gets support from Heavy regulars Crazy Lion, DJ Asayo, DJ Wash and others.
“We’re planning a new collaboration MTR night with DJ Enso’s Solos Records and we hope to get our sound out to more of the LKF people, says Fai. “We’re going to do some warehouse events to convert crowds of different genres too.” Stay tuned…
