Show Me, West Kowloon

So much talking and thinking has gone into the who, what, when, where, why of the West Kowloon Cultural District. If you’ve had enough of the conceptual promises and if Michael Lynch’s eloquence and Norman Foster’s designs neither convinces nor satisfies you, here’s what the WKCD Authority has got to show you this winter.

Without giving away lots of details, this afternoon, the Authority announced a handful of events to “bring life and people to the district” before a tree nursery and the Park construction begin at the headland next year. Mark your calendar for now and more details to come:

November 1 – 4: Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival

December 1 – 2: Clockenflap Music & Arts Festival

December 14, 2012 – February 24, 2013: Some sort of carnival featuring rides

December 15 and 16, 2012: Freespace Fest, experimental live shows and street performances

January 21 – February 11, 2013: Song Dong: 36 Calendars, a solo exhibition showcasing Beijing-based artist Song Dong’s yearlong installation project during his residency at the Asia Art Archive

January 30 – February 16, 2013: West Kowloon Bamboo Theatre, where Cantonese opera and other contemporary music and dance performances will redefine the bamboo stage

March 23 – June 2, 2013: Mobile M+: INFLATION!, a display of six gigantic inflatable sculptures at the future M+ and Park site
