Anthony Wong Comes Out

Anthony Wong Yiu-ming did a brave thing at his reunion concert with Tat-Ming partner Lau Yi-tat at the Hong Kong Coliseum on April 24 – he came out of the closet. He came out so gracefully, while wearing a hat made of black dildos, and simply said: “I am not a comrade (同志). I am homosexual. I am gay.” The audience cheered with a rippling sound of approval as Wong stood tall and proud with what we could see as four dildos on his head. Wong has always been bold – taking the alternative route with his music and also creating his music production company People Mountain People Sea, which created a platform for emerging artists that just weren’t feeling like they fit into the mainstream.

It was another bold move by Wong that will certainly have an impact on Hong Kong’s entertainment industry by creating another platform for the non-mainstream to stand.
