Asia Art Archive’s Programme for ART HK
HKCEC May 26-29
Asia Art Archive gives Hong Kong its yearly dose of global insights
Asia Art Archive (AAA) – Hong Kong’s foremost repository of contemporary art documentation – has once again brought together internationally renowned professionals to share their insights at a wealth of free programmes at ART HK.
The dynamic subjects covered in four panel discussions, entitled Backroom Conversations, include the radical side of traditional ink painting, Seoul’s meteoric rise as a global art centre, Hong Kong’s political and cultural renaissance and its impact on local artists and filmmakers, as well as a look-back at the last decade to highlight memorable key works.
Two new programmes join the roster this year. While Open Platform gives voice to four projects selected through an open call to global cultural producers, the Inaugural Burger Collection Keynote Lecture welcomes Professor Sarat Maharaj, an intelligent voice that has made the art world a little livelier. The cultural theorist and art historian will give a presentation entitled “Sounding Asia Pandemonium” on this occasion.
Also be sure to check out AAA’s booth at the fair. Another Life: The Digitised Personal Archive of Geeta Kapur and Vivan Sundaram recreates the physical archive of two significant figures in India’s recent art history.
As Hong Kong embarks on myriad cultural projects, these programmes offer the public a rare opportunity to participate in the conversation – and yet another reason not to miss the fair.
