In case you couldnât tell, we love movies â and if youâre reading this, presumably you do, too. Who doesnât, really? Thatâs not a controversial statement. The controversy happens when you start talking about the greatest movies of all-time. Because while everyone loves getting lost in a film for two-plus hours, not everyone loves the same films. Tastes in cinema vary wildly, of course: one personâs Citizen Kane is anotherâs Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo, or vice versa. (Hey, itâs possible.)Â Â That can make ranking the best movies ever made a fraught process. But the point of the list youâre about to peruse isnât to solidify any sort of canon. Itâs better to think of it as a roadmap. If youâre just beginning to fill in the gaps of your movie knowledge, this is the perfect way to identify the holes. And if youâre enough of a cinephile to have seen every movie on here already, it might cause you to rethink your own personal rankings. Itâs a list that covers a lot of ground: over 100 years, multiple countries, and just about every genre you can imagine, from monolithic blockbusters to treasured cult classics, ridiculous comedies to freaky horror, sweaty-palmed thrillers to eye-popping action flicks. So get exploring â you may not like everything you see, but weâre confident youâll find something that surprises you. What makes an airport great? A good mix of shops, restaurants and bars? A low number of delays? A pretty sweet luxury offering? Low carbon emissions? With so many factors to evaluate, itâs hard to judge which airport is the worldâs best â but itâs okay, because weâve got the Air Transport Awards to tell us! The accolades were announced at a prestigious ceremony in Greece, organised by Hermes, Air Transport News and a bunch of industry bodies like Airports Council International and the International Air Transport Association. The winners were determined by the votes of more than 4,000 industry executives and Air Transport News readers. For the fourth year in a row, the industry awards named iGA Istanbul Airport as the best in the world. Given that itâs only been open for five years, that is quite impressive. âIn order to offer our guests a pleasant travel experience, we set higher standards for ourselves in terms of efficiency, sustainability, innovation and passenger satisfaction,â said the airportâs acting CEO Selahattin Bilgen, according to Daily Sabah. Kostas Iastrou, general director and CEO of Air Transport News said the airportâs resilience had helped it rapidly return to pre-pandemic numbers and that the award reflects the dedicated work of all the airportâs staff. Other winners included Indian flight operator IndiGo, which won best airline, Singaporean operator Scoot which won best budget airline, and International Airlines Group which won eco-airline of the year,
For those of us who love a little adventure on our summer getaways, donning a wetsuit and some oxygen tanks can be a great way to see the stunning wildlife our coasts have to offer. Not everyone loves diving down to the depths, and snorkelling can be a great way to catch a glimpse of some tropical fish in shallower waters. But if youâre up for taking the plunge, Confused.com has rounded up the scuba destinations with the highest number of marine species worth suiting up for. Unsurprisingly, Australia claimed the top spot. Thanks to the huge diversity of the Great Barrier Reef, which is home to species like turtles, sharks, corals and countless fish, it boasts 44 of the most popular marine species that divers seek on their dives. But itâs not just old GBR thatâs a popular spot â the kelp forests of Tasmania and the shipwrecks off Queenslandâs coast are scuba magnets, too. In second place itâs the US, which closely follows Australia with 43 marine species on offer. Florida Keys, Californiaâs Channel islands and of course the coast of Hawaii all offer a bounty of stunning marine life, such as green sea turtles and green lionfish. Three destinations tied for third place: Indonesia, Japan and Taiwan. Raja Ampat and Komodo National Park are popular destinations in Indonesia, home to species like seahorses and manta rays, whereas Japan boasts various types of sharks, and Taiwan a colourful array of tropical fish. The best destinations in the world for scuba diving 1. Ticking off the main tourist attractions on a city break is all well and good, but itâs only when you veer off down a side street or stumble across a leafy avenue that you really get a glimpse of a cityâs true character. Streets are the heart of local life; theyâre where communities come together, where new local businesses become go-to staples and where urbanites go out, hang out and have fun. So what are the worldâs coolest streets worth a stroll right now? To find the answer, we reached out to our global team of local expert editors and contributors, who each made a case for the coolest street in their city. We then narrowed down the selection to create a definitive ranking of the best avenues, thoroughfares, backstreets and boulevards on the planet. And so you have it: the coolest streets in the worldâs best cities. Over the last few years, street life has gone through something of an evolution. Outdoor drinking and dining, at one point a temporary measure, has become a staple on many of the streets on our hotlist; only bolstered by green initiatives like pedestrianisation and low-traffic avenues. In other words, these streets have become much more walkable and pleasant places to spend our time. On every street on this list, there are bold, creative new ventures in food, drink, nightlife and culture: from listening bars to repurposed heritage buildings, these streets are where youâll find a cityâs most exciting cultural trends. Itâs still early days, but 2024 is already shaping up to be a gala year at the multiplex. Last year was a cracker â thanks to Oppenheimer, Barbie, Past Lives et al â but the next 12 months promise plenty, with Denis Villeneuve delivering a long-awaited Dune sequel, George Miller back at the bullet farm with Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, a resurrection of the Alien franchise, and a tonne of other big-screen fare to get excited about. So far, weâve been spoiled rotten, with the achingly lovelorn All of Us Strangers, Yorgos Lanthimosâs riotous Poor Things, and Ava DuVernayâs dazzlingly ambitious Origin just a few of the good reasons to get to the cinema. So, the criterion for entry: some of these movies came out in the US at the back end of 2023 â Oscars qualification required it â but weâre basing this list on UK release dates to include the best worldwide releases from between January and December. Weâll be updating it with worthy new releases as we go, so keep this one bookmarked. Comedy gets no respect, no respect at all. Actually, thatâs not entirely true: everyone loves to laugh, and everyone has their favourite comedy movie to throw on when in need of a mood enhancer. But itâs also a genre frequently overlooked by cinemaâs award-givers and canon gatekeepers â despite the fact that making a truly great, lasting comedy is one of the hardest achievements in film to pull off. Itâs an artform largely dependent on context: what causes an audience to double over in hysterics in 2024 might be met with blank stares just a few years later, let alone a half-century.And so, those that have kept us cracking up for decades are truly special. To put together this list of the 100 greatest movie comedies ever, we asked comedians like Diane Morgan and Russell Howard, actors such as John Boyega and Jodie Whittaker and a small army of Time Out writers about the movies that make them chuckle the hardest, and for the longest amount of time. In doing so, we believe weâve found the 100 finest, most durable and most broadly appreciable laughers in history. No matter your sense of humour â silly or sophisticated, light or dark, surreal or broad â youâll find it represented here. You might have the most impressive pipes in the whole of your city. You might sound like a strangled cat when you sing, especially after a few drinks. But whatever your range and ability, you will take to the stage for one of these karaoke songs. And it will be brilliant. Choosing the right song is crucial. If you can't sing in tune, perhaps opt for a rap. If you want to show off that high range, potentially opt for a bit of Whitney. In our list of the best karaoke songs ever, we've got everyone from Madonna to Lizzo, and from Toto to Frank Sinatra. Take a shot and warm up those vocal chords, people. Last year we bid farewell to Succession, Barry and Top Boy, fell hard for Beef, Colin From Accounts and Blue Lights. The next 12 months should help us move on â the potential impact of 2023âs writersâ strike notwithstanding â as early hits like World War II epic Masters of the Air and Mr and Mrs Smith, Prime Videoâs intoxicating mix of witty marital drama and zippy espionage caper, are already proving. Ahead are hotly-anticipated new runs of Bridgerton and Squid Game on Netflix, a third season of Industry, a sci-fi prequel in Dune: Prophecy, HBOâs barbed political satire The Regime, Park Chan-wook spy thriller The Sympathizer, and The Franchise, the latest from telly genius Armando Iannucci â among many other potentially binge-worthy offerings.
