Champions League Final in 3D

Most things look awesome in 3D. ‘Aint that the truth. It’s not necessary but it really does add an extra dimension to a feature up on the big screen. However, for some screened events and shows, 3D takes it a step too far. Soft porn, perhaps, falls into that category. And, um, football. However, that hasn’t stopped some cinemas in the city from showing the forthcoming Champions League final – soft porn for some, football for everyone else – in 3D format.

The final pits German heavyweights Bayern Munich against English tycoon-bank-rolled underdogs Chelsea in a who’s-the-best-in-Europe-this-year encounter. It should be a thrilling match and could be a swansong for many Chelsea players like Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard who make a final push for the trophy. Meanwhile, Bayern produce a stacked squad with household names like Robben, Ribery, Müller, Gomez and Schweinsteiger who aim to fire up their home stadium’s crowd by the final whistle.

Although the price for watching the game in 3D at one of the selected cinemas will be a rather steep $250, the 3D glasses will be free as you’re transported from the comfort of your seat to the heart of the Allianz Arena. Commentary will be in English, with the amusing and oft-excitable Gary Neville likely to provide an entertaining night from the pundits box.

So if the pub ‘aint good enough for you, take a trip to a cinema and watch the biggest game of the year in 3D. Two halves in two dimensions just doesn’t seem to suffice any more…

Sun May 20, 2.1 5am, screening at select UA (iSquare, MegaBox, tmtplaza), Broadway Cinemas (IFC, Cyberport, apm) and MCL JP for $250.
