Picture books take a bow
Little ones get their chance to enjoy world-class productions in Hong Kong’s first-ever KidsFest with three classic picture books brought to life on stage. Now, on with the show! By Jalasaya Federoff and Lilly Zhang
We’re Going on a Bear Hunt
It’s a beautiful day – perfect to set off on a search for a bear through ‘swishy swashy’ grass, a ‘splashy sploshy’ river and the ‘squelch squerch’ of mud. But will this adventerous family be able to catch a big one? There’s only one way to find out. In this production adapted from the timeless picture book written by Michael Rosen, you’ll get to follow and join in on a family’s exciting quest to find a bear. Your kids will love the catchy songs and interactive adventures as the anticipation builds. We’re not scared! JF

Stick Man
When Stick Man goes out for a jog one day, he gets caught up in the trickiest of adventures: he becomes a toy for a dog, nesting material and even firewood! As each event unfolds, he continues his struggle to escape – leaving us anxiously wondering if Stick Man will ever find his way home to the family tree. Adapted from the much-loved picture book from Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, Stick Man’s production team has done an impressive job bringing a simple stick to dramatic life. Even if your kids haven’t already read the book, the actors on stage are incredibly engaging and make for an entertaining show with live music and puppetry. JF

The Tiger Who Came to Tea
How do you feed an unexpected house guest, especially when he arrives with a beastly appetite? This is what Sophie and her mother have to think about in The Tiger Who Came to Tea, based on the 1968 picture book written and illustrated by Judith Kerr. The production team has done an impressive job in recreating the set, costumes and of course the tiger himself straight from the book. Following its well-received run in London’s West End, the tea-guzzling tiger played by Alan Atkins makes his way to Hong Kong in this fun family show packed with sing-a-long songs, magic and plenty of audience participation.
