It hasn’t been a great year for National Basketball Association fans around the world. As a six-month lockout over revenues and salaries looks set to end at Christmas (fingers crossed), NBA fans should finally be about to see their favourite players hit the courts again. B-ball lovers here will get a special treat before the season officially starts as 14 world-renowned former NBA superstars play a special exhibition game. We get a little nostalgic remembering five of these basketball greats...

Dennis Rodman
NBA Years: Detroit Pistons (1986-93), San Antonio Spurs (1993-95), Chicago Bulls(1995-98), Los Angeles Lakers(1999), Dallas Mavericks (1999-2000)
Nickname: The Worm
Trademark: Tattoos, technicolour hairstyles
Specialty: Masterful rebounder
Career Highlight: In game six of the 1996 NBA finals, Rodman had an amazing match with 19 rebounds and 11 offensive boards


Scottie Pippen
NBA Years: Chicago Bulls (1987-98), Houston Rockets (1999), Portland Trailblazers (1999-2003), Chicago Bulls (2003-04)
Trademark: One of the best defenders in NBA history
Specialty: Second half of the dynamic duo. But don’t call him Robin…
Career Highlight: In a Bulls vs Nuggets game in 1997, Scottie Pippen scored a career high of 47 points in one game

Clyde Drexler
NBA Years: Portland Trail Blazers (1983-1995), Houston Rockets (1995-98)
Nickname: The Glide
Trademark: High vertical jump, incredible dunk moves
Specialty: Super slam dunker
Career Highlight: Drexler scored a career high 50 points in 1989

Gary Payton
NBA Years: Seattle Supersonics (1990-2003), Milwaukee Bucks (2003), Los Angeles Lakers (2003-04), Boston Celtics (2004-05), Miami Heat (2005-07)
Nickname: The Glove
Trademark: Led the league in steals 1995-96
Specialty: Trash-talking court dominator
Career Highlight: Payton scored 31 points and 13 assists against the Lakers, game four in 1998

Penny Hardaway
NBA: Orlando Magic (1993-99), Phoenix Suns (1999-2004), New York Knicks (2004-06), Miami Heat (2007), 1996 Olympic USA Team
Younger Brother: Li’l Penny (just YouTube it)
Trademark: Quick speed and amazing dunks
Specialty: Creative scorer
Career Highlight: Game three of Magic vs the Heat in the 1997 NBA playoffs saw Hardaway picking up a very beaten Orlando Magic and taking them to victory, scoring 42 points that game.
