Rooftop Cinema
For a city with such an illustrious cinematic history, it’s surprising to note that we have such a dearth of independent cinemas, never mind an almost total lack of opportunities to watch movies outdoors. Kudos then to the folks behind a season of cult classics being screened over the next five weeks at the Fringe Club Rooftop. “Who doesn’t enjoy kicking back and enjoying a movie night on a friend’s rooftop in Hong Kong?” says organiser Simon Roberts. “It’s one of the rare occasions you get to really relax and get out of Hong Kong’s hustle and bustle. Rooftop Cinema is for anyone, like myself, who enjoys watching a movie in the open air rather than in another refrigerated shopping mall.”
Things kick off with the Ben Stiller male-model comedy Zoolander on April 7, before Wong Kar-wai’s classic In the Mood for Love gets an airing (quite literally) on April 12. Patrick Swayze fans are in for a treat with a triple helping of the late beefcake star (Dirty Dancing on April 13, Point Break on April 26, plus mind-bending time-travel-thriller-cum-1980s-teen-flick Donnie Darko on April 19), while bankers may flock to see Johnny Depp showing them how it’s done in cocaine-tooting epic Blow (April 21). And, to wrap things up, get your dialogue quotes primed for Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction on May 4. One more spot has been reserved, on April 28, for the public to vote online for their favourite ‘feel good’ movie. A percentage of proceeds from this screening will go to the Clean Air Network, and voting, at rooftopcinema.hk, closes April 23.
Let’s just hope it doesn’t rain and turn it into Waterworld.

Agree - I can rent/dl and buy my own bottle andit'd be a better deal.
But its about the EXPERIENCE! IT WAS SO MUCH FUN AND NOT LIKE ANYTHING ELSE IN HONG KONG! We need more of these. Can't wait for Season II!
