The Beer Pong Tournament
When people reminisce about college, they tend not going to think about all the studying they did or what grade they got in that final. No, what springs to mind first are all those crazy nights out, partying and getting loose. Well, prepare to be brought back to those carefree days as Hong Kong gets its first official beer pong tournament this week.
The game might seem a bit foreign for anyone who didn’t go to school in the US or Canada but that’s not a problem since, unlike local drinking games, there’s not much thinking or rules involved. “Everyone can play, it doesn’t require a large amount of skills. It takes maybe two minutes to learn and doesn’t take much to master,” says John Stephen of Entertaining Asia, the organiser of the tournament.
The only skill required is the ability to toss or bounce a ping pong ball into one of a number of cups placed in a pyramid shape on a table, half filled with beer. With each cup ’hit’, the other team has to drink the contents of the cup. The first team to eliminate all of the other team’s cups wins.
Although the tournament has already begun, you can still have a good time catching the action at the third and final rounds. Like most sports, beer pong is much fun watching as it is playing it. There are plans to turn the tournament into a monthly event so there’ll be plenty of chances to get into the game and hone your skills.
