Fingerboard Tricks 2010
Hongkongers can’t complain about the lack of competitive sporting events in the city. We’ve seen the rock-paper-scissors championship, the pen-spinning world tournament, and on Saturday 3 the city will be getting its first fingerboarding tricks competition.
Fingerboarding is just like skateboarding, only that tricks are performed using your fingers instead of your feet. Requiring exceptional dexterity and considerable hand-eye-brain co-ordination, fingerboarding can be played anywhere and, unlike skateboarding, is not a crime. While it may not sound as risky as traditional skateboarding, fingerboarders are still perilously prone to injuries such as broken nails, finger cuts and cramps. Seriously.
Especially for this event renowned fingerboarding champion Timo Kranz and German professional fingerboarder Christopher Heck will be in town to demonstrate their skills and adjudicate the competition. Workshops will also be held for local fingerboarders and others who are interested in picking up a new sport. Shoppers are entitled to join workshops with purchases of $100 by credit card, EPS or Octopus card with on-day receipts at Paradise Mall. Places are available on a first-come-first-served basis to learn about an extreme sport where there are pro fingerboarders and old fingerboarders, but sadly no old pros. Not yet, anyway.

Interested parties can sign up for fingerboard skills and painting workshops on 28th March, 2nd and 5th April. The inaugural fingerboarding tricks competition will be held on 2nd April 3pm at Paradise Mall, Heng Fa Chuen.
