Legend Fighting Championship
Ahead of the city’s first mixed martial arts championships, Andrew James puts himself at the mercy of two of the top fighters involved in the competition to get a first-hand experience of their favourite moves.
Adrian Pang Australian Lightweight Champion
Left jab, right low kick, right knee. A quick and effective combination that can be executed at any point during a match.
Inside left leg kick, followed by a right cross. Sets up the opponent and forces him off balance while following through with a hit to the face.
Killer combo. Left jab to set up, hitting a double-leg take-down into a ground-and-pound situation in which the fighter punches the crap out of his opponent.
Beat to submission. Jab to double leg, ground-and-pound, knee right, and striking, forcing the opponent to cover his face so the fighter can set up an arm bar (a submission hold).
Guard move. If you’re on the ground, tie up an arm and transition into a triangle shape – you’ll force your opponent to submit.
Zhao Zilong China's former heavyweight King of Sanda
Overhand punch. In Sanda, you keep a lot of distance between you and your opponent, so a fake kick followed by a punch can be a good way to start.
Roundhouse kick. The fighter whips his leg around in a semi-circular motion to deliver a fast and powerful way to take down his opponent.
Knee. If you hit him in the chest, this move can make your opponent feel like he’s been hit by an unforgiving car.
Cross elbow. At close-range, this severe jab to the chops can be debilitating. Avoid at all costs.
Knee bar. A tight form of leg lock that traps and immobilises the opponent, providing a fairly effective way to finish a fight.
