Delay No Mall
The multi-floor exercise in design and consumerism is a masterpiece in a town so pressed for retail space. Admittedly the Regal Hotel is not designer central, but this wacky space displaying the best of Asian designers has uplifted the ageing hotel it lives in. You can find everything from men’s thongs to golden duck necklaces to arty-farty coffee table books in this maze of retail. They are also the home to MOCA China, the first contemporary art museum in Hong Kong, and you can even take a nap in their sleep pods when all the merchandises makes you dizzy. 68 Yee Wo St, Causeway Bay, 2577 6988; www.delaynomall.com.

Runner-up: Agnes B’s La Loggia
People here love this French retailer. So much so that when Agnes B opened her flagship store in IFC Mall, people came out in droves to check out the many facets of her operation. This brand started the trend of bring clothing and dining together. Now it is bringing clothing, fine dining, chocolates, gardening and luggage together under one house. And that is why La Loggia’s made it on our list. 3/F, IFC Mall, 8 Finance St, Central, 2805 0678; www.agnesb.com.

Second runner-up: H&M
They’ve given Madonna and Kylie a chance to express the fashionista part of their brain and dress their fans at the same time. They’ve granted Karl Lagerfeld and Comme Des Garcons an outlet to dress the mass market. This Swedish retailer is just tugging at all the right consumer strings. And we love that they’ve embraced wallet-conscious fashion people rather than snub them. We’re dying to seeing what they have in store for us in 2009. Citywide; www.hm.com/hk.

Honorable mention: D-Mop

For people who don’t do off the rack, they will do D-Mop. The fashion forward make closing-hour visits to check out the inventory from little-known local and international labels before they appear on shelves. Citywide; www.d-mop.com.hk.

Reader’s Choice: Lane Crawford

This has become the fashion house that rules over Hong Kong. They’ve bought international designs home for all of us to gush over. Citywide; www.lanecrawford.com.
