Sir Run Run Shaw

100 years old, media titan

In Hong Kong show business, TVB and Shaw Studios are unforgettable landmarks – despite the fact Sir Run Run Shaw has long retired. Now 100 years old, Shaw’s legacy of entertainment in our city has not faded, as his TV empire continues to be an integral part of many Hongkongers’ daily lives. In addition, Shaw funds the Shaw Prize – the so-called ‘Nobels of Asia’ – offering $1 million dollars to outstanding scientists.

  • At present, there're a lot of problems in H.K. Nobody asked Mr. Shaw to give money prize when the film industry here is going down. The movie stars have to eat. We live in a city & must manage our money sensibly. Of course money is important. Try to ask yourself if you can make $10 (just $10) out of anybody. As difficult as going to the moon. Mr. Shaw has to live within his abilities. No good to give (Why? when one cannot earn) You've the freedom to give/ not give. We've no $$ to modernize H.K. hygene conditions, education,English standard all need money. We,Chinese live like beggars.Mr.Shaw is the head of beggars, why still pretend that you've to give stupidly when the money can be spent on your real needs.... [Edited by TOHK] We live among rats, have little money to buy food, to pay good teachers. People complain that H.K. is dirty, sad..DO something to save yourself.Mr. Shaw Save yourself first. You NEED $$ too. Why cut the workers in TVB & pretend that you don't need money yourself.
