Age 61, actress and charity worker
Josephine Siao is a movie legend in her own lifetime. Born in Suzhou in 1947, her parents moved to Hong Kong two years later, and she made her big screen debut in 1954’s Come Back, My Dear! An acclaimed child star, Siao grew up to become one of the city’s most beloved actresses, starring in over 80 films, as well as taking producing, writing and directing credits in a score of others. However, as her hearing began to fade – she had suffered partial deafness since a very young age – Siao stepped out of the limelight (apart from an award winning turn in 1995’s Summer Snow) in order to take care of her children. Awarded an OBE in 1996, three years later she fulfilled a long time goal, and founded the End Child Sexual Abuse Foundation (ecsaf.org), a charity to which she now devotes most of her time.
